The Reality
The loud sound of banging gates and keys jingling
The scent of cigarette smoke in the indoor cell lingering
From no air, to mesh covered windows
It could be one day, 2 or three, but nobody knows
The song of the birds matches the sound of the trolley
As the world rumbles, a plane will depart
The sound of these things remind me not to worry
I haven’t been left alone, I’m not stuck in the dark
Everyday when I wake up, I am one step closer to freedom
It’s been over 2 years and my family? I still haven’t seen them
The strength of one is what keeps my heart pumping
Sometimes they tell her why don’t you just go home or something?
As the day goes by, I often sit and wonder
But someone once told me, absence makes the heart grow fonder
My life is not the same and never will be
The day I leave this prison, I will finally be free
The truth is something many people can’t accept
But as the days go by, I don’t live in regret
I am proud of the person I have become
But life wouldn’t be this way if it wasn’t for some
So, if you feel like that person might be you
The hug and the thank you is way overdue
I love so hard with all my heart
Strength is a form of gratitude and practical art
I thank you for the days ahead
Even though I sleep on a wooden bed
I admire you all from afar
Thank you for healing my emotional scars
Yours Isabel Rose, written on 25/03/26 ♡
